Signature Designs by LaNorma, LLC is an Artisan jewelry business that specializes in unique, one-of-a-kind, high quality handcrafted jewelry designed to complement an individual’s unique personal style. We design and create necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and other accessories using various medias such as precious and semi-precious gemstones, precious metals, swarovski crystals, vintage beads, wood, bone, precious metal clay (fine silver), polymer clay, and glass, etc. The styles of the jewelry designs will vary from crocheted wire, chainmaille, wire and polymer clay creations, bead stringing, fine silver designs from PMC clay and metalsmithing.
The company, Signature Designs by LaNorma, LLC was born from the designer, LaNorma Huggins-Hopes’ love for unique jewelry, formal business background, and creative talents. It has been her dream to design jewelry with a unique personal touch that others could enjoy and cherish. One of her inspirations for creating and designing these unique jewelry creations comes from her grandmother, Maxine Taylor. Her grandmother was what you would call a “queen of all crafts”. She was a professional seamstress, who designed the formal gowns wore by Yolande Betbeze, Miss America (1951). She also designed elegant gowns and elaborate beaded trains for the various queens in the Mobile Mardi Gras courts. One of the Mardi Gras trains designed by her grandmother can be found on display at the Mobile (AL) Museum of Art. One of her grandmother’s other passions was jewelry design, in which she designed fabulous crocheted necklaces. The “Maxi” collection “, one of the featured collections on the website was named in her honor.
LaNorma has traveled the United States taking jewelry classes from various award winning jewelry artists, such as Michael David Sturlin (Wire crochet), Nick Barnes (metalsmithing), Carol Zillacus (Polymer clay), Alice Alper-Rein (Precious Metal clay), and Noël Yovovich (Wire design) to name a few. She established a presence as a jewelry artisan in 2005, designing jewelry and selling these pieces to co-workers, family, friends, and client referrals. The enthusiastic response to her designs motivated her to form a business.
